\n\tHello,\n<\/p>\n

\n\ti had recently the problem that i installed ESXi 5.1 on the local network. Installation and configuration went smoothly but the network card was not recognized. After some reading i found the answer, install a community-compiled driver for that card.\n<\/p>\n

\n\tHere a quick how i've got the Intel 82579LM to work:\n<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. \n\t\tDownload the needed driver here. net-e1000e-2.1.4.x86_64.vib<\/a> and put it on the disk\n\t<\/li>\n
  2. \n\t\tGo to your ESXi and make sure that at least your ESXi Shell is enabled then go to the terminal using CTRL+ALT+F1\n\t<\/li>\n
  3. \n\t\tLogin with your root password\n\t<\/li>\n
  4. \n\t\tGo to the folder you where you stored the driver\n\t<\/li>\n
  5. \n\t\tCopy the driver to another place
    \n\t\t# cp \/path\/to\/net-e1000 \/tmp<\/em>\n\t<\/li>\n
  6. \n\t\tPut ESXi into maintenace mode
    \n\t\t# esxcli system maintenanceMode set -e true -t 0<\/em>\n\t<\/li>\n
  7. \n\t\tSet the host software level to community
    \n\t\t# esxcli software acceptance set –level=CommunitySupported<\/em>\n\t<\/li>\n
  8. \n\t\tNow install the driver
    \n\t\t# esxcli software vib install -v \/tmp\/net-e1000e-2.1.4.x86_64.vib (path must be absolute)<\/em>\n\t<\/li>\n
  9. \n\t\tAnd exit the maintenance mode
    \n\t\t# esxcli system maintenanceMode set -e false -t 0<\/em>\n\t<\/li>\n
  10. \n\t\tThat's it, reboot the machine.\n\t<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
